An opportunity has arisen for residents to apply to join Colburn Town Council and become involved in the important work which it carries out. Members vote on how local money raised through the precept is spent; liaise with the police to maintain law and order; discuss and find new ways to improve the environment; maintain the quality of play areas which include fitness equipment for all ages. Most importantly at the present time all planning and development applications are thoroughly examined and commented upon before being returned to Richmondshire District Council for processing.
Meetings are held monthly (bar August) on the third Monday of the month at 6.15 pm in the Village Hall, Colburn Lane. Any person over the age of 21 may apply in writing by post or email giving their name and address with brief details of their local interests, work experience which may be useful for running the Council's business and why they wish to be co-opted to the Council.
This is an unpaid position.
Training courses run by Yorkshire Local Councils Association can be attended to widen knowledge of how local government works which would be funded by the Town Council.
