A WARNING ABOUT MOTOR VEHICLE SEIZURES

My Team now has access to new technology that can check a motor vehicle in seconds when on patrol and the main reason for having this is to combat crime, in particular travelling criminals that may be heading to our fine County. We really do want to keep crime as low as possible and this is and is a fantastic way helping achieve that.

However, whilst using this technology I am very disappointed to report that in just 10 hours of patrol over 3 days, I have personally seized 8 motor vehicles, 6 from local residents due to them not having valid Insurance or driving documents etc. My wider team have seized even more!

So, the point of this message is firstly to reassure you that we are doing our best to keep Richmondshire as safe and crime free as possible, but I would ask you check if your driving documents are all valid. Some of the excuses I am hearing include, 'IT WAS AN OVERSIGHT, SORRY', which is clearly not acceptable.

If your driving documents are not valid, you run a very high risk of losing your vehicle, plus being prosecuted for any offences. The picture attached is a motor vehicle seized in Richmond for No Insurance and has since been recycled, so they did not get it back.
